She's Expecting

Remember the 2 geese who came to stay over the winter? Well they are still here and the female goose just made herself a nest and has laid 6 eggs. Nick walked around to the side of the pond she is on and he could see from there. I was reading up on the gestation period for geese and it's 23-30 days so in a couple of weeks, hopefully if all goes well, we'll have babies!

When Nick walked over to that side of the pond, it's an area we don't use, he actually sank in mud up to his waist and was getting pulled in deeper. When I was telling my neighbor about it, she said that legend has it that a team of work horses sank in that mud and they never got them out. I wonder how many of these "legends" she knows?

  1. Quick Sand!! OMG... sort of an Indiana Jones adventure land you're living on... *giggles. Would love to hear more about the legends she knows of in the area.

  3. Cool, baby ducks. You should take a metal detector our in the mud, but I guess it would sink along wiht the person using it.

  10. Can't wait to see the baby ducky pictures, but stay on the safe side of the pond. Please, warn the children not to venture to that side of the pond. I am so glad Nick made his way out of the MUD. That is a bit scary!

  11. It's always nice to see Mother Nature at her best. It would be wise to leave Mother Goose alone. She just might chase you!

As for the mud, I wonder if it really was quick sand? Have never seen that stuff, but I've heard allot about it. I'd be a bit more careful. It's good to read that Nick got out!

  14. Thanks everyone! And no worry about the kids and the mud pit. It's on a very hard to get to area of the pond and the kids don't go over there, just dummy Nick did,lol...but they know now to stay away from it!

  15. That's a lovely sight. I am looking forward to going over to Huntley Meadows to see the nest builders over there. I wasn't sure what kind of this this was. Is it a Canada or something else?
